Day Four

I had a phone call tonight to remind me that we have not been posting to the blog.  We have so much to be thankful for and so much to share with our family and friends, but unfortunately we have not had internet connection to make this happen.  We thought we were going to have one, but it did not work out.  The 707 students are doing such an amazing job.  They are rising up to every occasion and working really hard.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a really hot day!  We promise to keep everyone hydrated.

Friday is the field trip day, finishing up work projects and loading up the trucks.  We will stay at the hotel Friday night and have a time of debrief about the trip.

Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. your students will be available for pick-up.  I hope they are ready to talk and share everything about Detroit 2012 with you!  We have been so blessed this week.  Thank you for  allowing your students to participate.

Day 2

It's Sarah H. here.  We were not able to get video blogs today, however, it was an incredible day of ministry!  These students work really hard.  We have 8 teams going in 7 different directions everyday.  Today we had 2 teams at the CDC day camp where they ministered to children in preschool - sixth grade.  Our students participated in educational field trips run by OPC volunteers and coordinated worship, games and crafts.  We had 2 teams at two different work sites.  One work site is cleaning out an old convienience store so CDC can use it for an aquaponics garden.  It's just one more example of how CDC desires to revitalize their community.  The other works site painted an apartment complex that CDC will use for ministry.

There were 2 street crew teams that helped so many people with work projects in the community.  They were also able to buy gifts for the families they served.  We had 1 group that was able to help at a day camp at the House of Help.  We had someone from OPC contact us to let us know that they were short staffed at their day camp and asked if we had any people we could spare.  If there is one thing we have it's people!  We were thrilled to be able to help and will be sending people there all week.

The last group is our church crew.  This group acts as our team moms for the day.  They pick up after everyone has left, clean the bathrooms, the kitchen, take out the trash and set up for dinner.  Plus they lend a helping hand when vans come back to church and need help loading or unloading.  It sounds like it's not a big deal, but we could not do this trip without this team!  Today's crew did a great job of taking care of our home and the rest of the team.

Tomorrow looks a lot like today, but different teams in different places.  I really hope to get some testimonial videos up tomorrow so you can hear, first hand, about what is going on in the City of Detroit.

Thank you for lending us your students.  We are having a blast!

Day One

We are ready to go!  We will be posting video blogs each night as we have internet service available.

For parents that wanted a copy of the parents letter I have posted it here.
